Abersychan is a settlement and community north of Pontypool in Torfaen and lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Monmouthshire and the preserved county of Gwent. As of 2011, there were 7,064 usual residents in Abersychan ward.
The town includes Abersychan Comprehensive School and the former Victoria Primary School; together with various shops and other amenities including Abersychan Rugby Club. Victoria Village Primary School was opened in 1903 and closed in 2018.
Abersychan was the birthplace of the politicians Roy Jenkins, Don Touhig and Paul Murphy (Former MP for Torfaen); and of the former rugby footballers Wilfred Hodder, Candy Evans and Bryn Meredith.
The Abersychan community included Abersychan, Cwmavon, Garndiffaith, Pentwyn, Talywain, Varteg, and Victoria Village.
Sadly the ward boundary has now changed and Pentwyn has been lost and added to the Snatchwood Ward.
